It was a privilege and honor to attend the South Dakota Learning Tour on behalf of Artspace. The organizers – First Peoples Fund, Four Bands Community Fund, and the Open Society Foundations – were amazing, as were all of the incredible people that took the time to join us and present to us. They introduced us to a region with a deep rich history, which now has the highest poverty in the nation, in such a way that we understood the history, facts, reality and most importantly the challenges and issues that are being addressed. We were introduced to so many strong and passionate Native community leaders (young and old) who are doing incredible work.
I left personally and professionally inspired.
We all have our roles to play and I love working in a field where the arts are upheld as a tool for social change. Artspace’s work to build communities through the arts is one great way to empower artists who truly impact the world we live in.
